The New 'Nightmare'

Ok ok ok everyone I have a confession! I am a 'Freddy Fanatic'! Although the movie made its debut when I was only 2, I have loved that Killer Kruger since my older sister popped in that VHS tape to keep me quite back in 1986. A Nightmare on Elm Street is definitely in my top 5 movies of all time. I have loved every thing about the Nightmare franchise from the house on North Genese where Nancy called home, all the way down to Freddys trade mark fedora, and classic punch lines right before he... Well ya know! I must have watched the first Nightmare everyday for 3 years strait. That and Purple Rain. Hey what can I say, I am a 80's baby. Which brings me to my point smoothed by all this nostalgia. I don't think that Wes Craven has much to do with the new one (for those of you who don't know he directed, wrote, designed sets, named. Basically Freddy was his brain child) although that in and of it self has me taken a back a bit, but as a true Freddy Follower Ill fight through. I haven't read any reviews, I have seen a couple of trailers. The one thing that this remake has that put a check in the Pro column even before its release is the casting of Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy himself. Not to many can really pull off creepy but I think Jackie does a great job of it. Anyone seen Little Children? Creepy! Another thing is that this is a Michael Bay production. So with Bay behind the film if nothing else the visual should be great. Now on to director Samuel Bayer. Don't know too much about this guy except he's done music videos. And has a bunch of VMAs. Nightmare will be his first venture into film. The teenage cast members are probably built of some random pickings from the YH&H clique (Young Hot & Hollywood) . I doubt a new Johnny Depp will credit this movie on his resume! (A little new school hatin! So what! Sue me!) So here's my problem with the remaking of the movie, and a lot of you won't agree with me. But Whatever Its kinda like that fact vs fiction thing. Like I said I have watched horror and loved it since I was a little baby. I always knew what was real life and what wasn't. Freddy is fake, not real. He will not come get you when you fall asleep. He is not the boogie man. Its all pretend! Movie Makers - Please do not take the fun out of Freddy! I beg you! Do not do to Freddy what you did to Batman! Batman was a cartoon. Larger than life. With a big yellow utility belt and Gothom looked like a drawing on the back of my high school note book. Then they made him into a real person, in a real city, with a real bad guy and took all the fun out of him! SMH All I'm saying is let Freddy do Freddy! Don't change the character of the character. Killing wasn't his job. He enjoyed it. He loved the cat and mouse game and had a witty sense of humor. He could skate board, kung fu fight, and played video games. And sliced and diced middle America's teens while doing so. I don't care how much more realistic this Freddy is compared to the 80's Freddy. There's no amount of Movie Magic that can make me believe that the boogie man with knives as finger nails is after me in my dreams. I dare you to scare me why don't ya! (Sarcasm) The real boogie men I'm afraid of aren't burned at all. They are greased, well dressed, work during the day, and live in a far off land called 'The District of Columbia'! I mean Wes' formula couldn't be all bad. It only worked for 7 films!
